Alumni Association News
Brothers,

As some of you may know, the house and the chapter needs our help. The house has fallen on hard times and we are seeking the assistance and support of all the members, both new and old, of the chapter for help. Due to many different house related issues, we will be needing a new house. The issue are ones that this chapter has always had, the structure of the house and its repair, and it should not surprise anyone that this has happened. It was only time. We want to work towards a future goal of a new house, but unfortunately the current financial situation of the alumni association does not allow us to begin work on those big plans at this time. We are seeking help to raise money to save the future of the chapter be it in one way or another.

house closingFor those who do not know, the house has had many code related issues come up and it has already been decided that trying to repair the building would be a complete waste of time and energy. That and the costs would far outweight any benefits the chapter would see from trying to fix the house. It had been decided at the spring joint alumni/active meeting to either demolition the house or sell the property outright. The main focus was on trying to salvage the station road property location, not the structure.

Currently we are trying to raise money to go towards
1) demolition of the current house, while trying to keep the property as an asset OR 2) to help get the ball rolling with both selling the house and moving towards a new house. Even though this seems 'cheap' it will cost money to get all items we need done to prepare the house for sale... this is a secondary plan.

I know this sounds very vague, and seems like an unorganized proposition, but it is not. Depending on the outcome of both upcomming alumni and active meetings, and certain things out of our control, the final decisions will be made very soon on the direction the property must take. As it stands right now we estimate we need to raise $5,000 to have enough to cover demolition costs of the house. Obviously, the chapter has so far shown an interest in first trying to salvage our current location before we take the ultimate step in selling the property and moving.

If you are worried about the active chapter housing situation, don't be. The actives have been well prepared since spring for the closing of the house and have aquired other housing locations to occupy for a time as rentals. They actually are renting in multiple groupings of brothers at two-three locations. The alumni assoc has been trying to work with the actives on this and will continue to do so to help ensure our chapter continues.

What we need now is you!

We need money to help meet our goals. You may be contacted by alumni about these issues and asked to offer any donations you can make. We know not everyone is in the best financial situation and anything you can give would be GREATLY appreciated. ALL money donated WILL be going to the chapter house fund, either towards the demolition costs, or other future house related funds we are building up. NO Money is going to non house related items... so do not worry about anything being wasted.

The house has been a home to so many over the years; a place to meet, to hang out, to study and to socialize. Some of you may have even met your wives at that very house. The fraternity, with our house at our core, has help many brothers make it through college, or at least make it more bearable. The house has always been an important part of the chapter and of all of our college lives, and while it is sad that we may need to move on to other housing, we want to ensure that the same opportunities, memories and fun can be had at a chapter house for the future generations of Sig Taus to come.

To help with donations we have setup an online electronic Donations Page Here so please give anything you can. We are also seeking additional information on any brothers you know of or talk to, especially the older classes of Alpha through Kappa. A lot of guys have fallen out of touch and we want to bring everyone back together on this.

I have also setup a page listing our current donators and how we are doing on our goals. Please visit Save The House for info. I would like to thank all those who have already donated and put us on our way!
While the $5,000 is our goal, do not think we have to stop there. This is a short term goal to solve a short term need. Any money not used for this current donation drive *will* remain in the house fund to start our new house! We will have a house again.

We have so many brothers out there I know if we all pull together we can make our goals and work towards a better fraternity as a group.

Thank you and if you need anything please let us know
