In light of Kinger's question, I thought we should let you guys know what the deal is with membership into the alumni association. We were planning on sending out a letter and membership information to all alumni at the beginning of the year, but due to problems getting the accounts switched over and getting the addresses from nationals, it has put us behind schedule.
Membership dues are $50 for a year, and can be sent to myself (address below), or you can use the PayPal link on the left side of the web page. What does that $50 get you? The money that we collect in dues will in no way go towards anything dealing with the property or house maintenance, this is strictly for the alumni association. We are currently planning on scheduling 2-3 events/gatherings for alumni this year. One possible event is a pirate game/tailgate. If you have any suggestions, we will talk about it at the alumni meeting at formal, or you can email any member of the exec board (preferably Hootie, he is in charge of Programs). Members of the alumni assoc. will be able to attend these event for free or for a large discount compared to non-members.
Dues also go to pay for scholarship awards for the active chapter that we would like to set back up, as well as national dues.
Also, being a paid active member of the alumni association will allow you to attend the two yearly meetings and have speaking and voting priveleges. That's right, if you are not a alumni assoc. member or a member of the active chapter, you will not be permitted to attend the meetings. Furthermore, in an attempt to help somewhat with collection of past debts for the active chapter, you will not be permitted to join the alumni assoc. if you have an outstanding balance with the active chapter.
We will still be sending out a letter and application to alumni sometime before formal (hopefully). You can either wait till then, which I would ask that you not, or you can use paypal, or send myself a check for dues. If you use paypal, please email me your contact information for our records.
We will go over in more detail our plans and listen to suggestions at the meeting at formal. Until then if you have any questions please feel free to get in contact with any one of the members of the executive board listed below. Thanks.
